71 - Delusions of Genre

Genre is such a plastic thing. Trance gets infusions of Psy-Trance, Goa, Tech House, Chillout and Funk. Chillout goes breakbeat. Breakbeat crosses over into Drum and Bass, Jungle, and Dubstep. Swing, Ska, Jive, Jazz – it’s all just trying to put labels on very amorphous, experiential things.

Generally, I suppose, I stick with Trance – it’s what I classify most of my music as. But what exactly is that? Does anyone really care if we mix a bit of breakbeat, or electro, or slow Goa in?
